Hey Pastor,

I've been reading your website lately and would love to see an article on your take of the life of Jesus, his message, etc... Maybe a breakdown of the sermon on the mount.

I know your busy but I would love to see it.

Thanks so much!

In Him,
Nate

Hey Nate,

Thank you for contacting Apprising Ministries. Just so you know, I wasn't born yesterday.

If you really wanted an article on the life of Jesus, His Message, etc. there are scores and scores of ministries on the Internet from which you can choose. And here's one of the very best sites on the web: http://www.gty.org/

So go for it Nate, knock yourself out. But here's a li'l tip for ya: In the future don't underestimate the intellect of those whom you write. This is because you might not be as clever as you may happen to think you are.

Thanks so much!

I'm sorry Pastor Silva,

I realize there are numerous websites explaining the life of Jesus. I'm just trying to get your take on it. It seems as though everyone else's view on Jesus is wrong, I'm just wanting to hear your right view.

Thanks for taking me seriously, and don't be afraid to smile.

Have a stress free and blessed day.

Nate

Hey no problem there Nate,

I figured someone with your obviously superior erudition (I had no idea what this word meant, so I looked it up. It's defined as: extensive knowledge acquired chiefly from books : profound, recondite, or bookish learning) would know "there are numerous websites explaining the life of Jesus." You'll pardon me if I don't believe that you do actually want to hear my take on His life.

But here's where your logic breaks down unfortunately: "It seems as though everyone else's view on Jesus is wrong, I'm just wanting to hear your right view." Note carefully what I said, ok Nate:
If you really wanted an article on the life of Jesus, His Message, etc. there are scores and scores of ministries on the Internet from which you can choose. And here's one of the very best sites on the web: http://www.gty.org/
Do you think I'm going to send you to someone whose view on Jesus is wrong? And if I say this is one of the very best sites to learn about the life of Jesus then it logically follows that I do not think "everyone else's view on Jesus is wrong."

So if you seriously do want to hear the "right view" about the life of Jesus then you may listen to Dr. John MacArthur. O, and don't be afraid to be a bit more serious Nate. A little stress actually produces character and perseverance.

May the Lord open your eyes that you might see the dark red sky this morning and recognize the time in which you live. I am afraid this is only the beginning and should the Lord tarry things are going to get mighty rough spiritually in the days ahead. You may believe me when I tell you that I sincerely wish I had better news.

Sincerely,

Ken Silva, pastor-teacher

Pastor Ken,

Thanks for the email. I'm sorry to say I really would like to hear your take on the life and message of Jesus. I realize there are many good sources in which you find 'trustworthy,' but I don't want to hear theirs. I want to hear yours.

When people ask me who I think Jesus is, or what I believe, I don't point them to a website. I tell them about the Jesus who I know. And I was hoping you would do the same, both for all the fans and opponents of your website.

So if you would be so kind, please, tell us all your take on the life and message of Jesus.

And the Lord did open my eyes today. I awoke to a bright blue sky with a damp scent in the air from the rainfall the night before. I had a half full glass of coffee and was thankful it was Sunday. Then we went to church and sang a song. Let me share the words with you.

It's called Hosanna. It's by hillsong united

Verse 1
I see the king of glory
Coming down the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes, the whole earth shakes
I see his love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing, the people sing

Chorus
Hosanna, hosanna
Hosanna in the highest

Verse 2
I see a generation
Rising up to take the place
With selfless faith, with selfless faith
I see a new revival
Staring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees, we're on our knees

Bridge
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me
Break my heart for what is yours
Everything I am for your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

Hosanna

That's what I see, Pastor Silva. The people I meet are beginning to take the very message of Jesus, God on earth, seriously. It's an exciting thing, and I can't help but be joyful for the things to come.

Peace Love Joy
Nate

Nate,

There's a whole lot more to what I do in the Lord than Apprising Ministries.

And as a pastor I caution you to check your attitude.

Bro,

I'm a pk, I know the life of the pastor/missionary and how busy and overwhelming it can be.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by attitude? I genuinely wanted to get your take on the life/message of Jesus.

I suggest you take a good hard unbiased look at the dialogue we've had, and if you're honest with yourself, you'll see who has the attitude.

Nate,

You said: "I'm not sure I understand what you mean by attitude?"

This has become painfully obvious.

Dear God by XTC

Here's a song from back in the '80s by a band called XTC. It's been getting some play on a local station here in west Michigan. The lyrics are blatantly anti-God. I just think it's interesting that the song says over and over that the author doesn't believe in God. But the rest of the lyrics go on to blame all the problems on God.

Let me know what you think.

Dear God
Lyric by: Andy Partridge

Dear God,
hope you got the letter, and...
I pray you can make it better down here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the people that you made in your image, see
them starving on their feet 'cause they don't get
enough to eat from God, I can't believe in you

Dear God, sorry to disturb you, but... I feel that I should be heard
loud and clear. We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
and all the people that you made in your image, see them fighting
in the street 'cause they can't make opinions meet about God,
I can't believe in you

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue? Did you make
mankind after we made you? And the devil too!

Dear God, don't know if you noticed, but... your name is on
a lot of quotes in this book, and us crazy humans wrote it, you
should take a look, and all the people that you made in your
image still believing that junk is true. Well I know it ain't, and
so do you, dear God, I can't believe in I don't believe in

I won't believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, no
devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You're always
letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you
drown. Those lost at sea and never found, and it's the same the
whole world 'round. The hurt I see helps to compound that
Father, Son and Holy Ghost is just somebody's unholy hoax,
and if you're up there you'd perceive that my heart's here upon
my sleeve. If there's one thing I don't believe in

it's you... Dear God.

Just War

How are we to respond to the idea that there are NO just wars? There is a conclusion that even WWII was not something to get involved in.

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Some good quotes to discuss

1. "Christianity is at its best when it is peculiar, marginalized, suffering, and at it's worst when it is popular, credible, triumphant, and powerful." p. 164

2. "To say that we must kill our enemies and join the popular project to "rid the world of evil" is to call Jesus unrealistic." p. 166

3. "The danger is that we can begin to read the Bible through the eyes of America rather than read America through the eyes of the Bible. We just want Jesus to be a good American." p. 194

Do you think the American Church is guilty of quote 3?

What about Jesus being considered unrealistic? Is that the case, or is just a different time frame?

Revelation

So I am slowly but surely making my way through the book and it hasn't gotten on the political bent that I anticipated from the start. I do think it is working its way there though. I am on page 153 or so and getting into the part where he talks about the book of Revelation.

Is it just me or are you really upset about what you were taught as a child in regards to this book?

I avoided the book when I was little because it scared me so bad, but if his interpretation is correct it was all for naught. I'm not happy about this.
